Walking at night and during the day is safe. I would prefer to stay in this area, rather than a few blocks away in the French quarter to avoid the crowds and noise. There are many name brand hotels in the surrounding area. The dome can be seen from far down Bourbon street, the center of the French quarter. That was very helpful to find the place at night. The tower has a rotunda at the top which is lit at night. The tower is very well located, about two blocks away from Bourbon street and Canal street. Hibernia Tower is old art deco style bank building that's been recently converted into apartments and Hotel units. In spite of the noise I definitely would, and probably will, stay here on our next visit to New Orleans. Request a room NOT overlooking Gravier St if you want a quieter apartment. The floodlights shining on the old Cotton Exchange across the street also make for a very bright bedroom even with the blinds closed. I’ve stayed downtown in many large cities and have never experienced this level of noise. We never heard any other guests in the building but, because the windows are single pane and the buildings are close together and cause a tunnel effect and even though we were on the fourth floor, you hear everything outside - garbage pickup from the dumpsters across the street( this goes on for half an hour at 3:30 AM), people yelling long after midnight, cars honking at each other at all hours, loud car stereos. The only negative, and it’s a big one, is the noise outside. The apartment has absolutely everything needed for a long stay, except a broom! We walked everywhere - the French Quarter, Frenchmen Street, St Louis Cemetery #1, the Riverwalk, WWll Museum, Rouses supermarket on Baronne St and when we wanted a day out of town the Enterprise car rental location on Baronne St is only a 15 minute walk away.
